Ranger Creek Ranch is one of the few ranches in west Texas that offer free-range aoudad sheep hunting. Our ranches in Knox County are located on mesas surrounded by cedar breaks and 200 feet deep canyons. This is perfect habitat for the aoudad sheep, which come out of the canyons during the winter to feed on the small grain fields in the mesas. These aoudad sheep have very keen eyesight, which makes it a challenging hunt. The hunter may either hunt out of a blind, or spot-n-stalk. Spot-n-stalk is an adventure, but one must be in good physical shape to climb the canyons and mesas.

At Ranger Creek Ranch, we have aoudad herds numbering as large as 60+ per group. Among these herds are several trophy-size and state record rams. Several aoudad harvested on the Ranch have scored in the SCI record book.  The Ranger Creek Ranch aoudad herd is heavily managed and only a select few aoudad hunts are offered each year.

Required Hunting License:

Texas Residents: Type 101 License $25​

Non-Texas Resident: 5-Day Special Hunting Type 157: $48

Legal for any period of 5 consecutive days (valid hunting dates will be printed on the license when issued). Valid to hunt: Exotic animals, all legal game birds (except turkeys), all non-game animals: squirrel, coyotes, aramadillos, javelina, and alligator. Not valid for other game animals. NOT VALID FOR DEER. Stamp endorsement requirements apply.

Free Hog Hunt: June, July, and August with unlimited hogs. Lodging $275 per person/ per day.

We show you the area; you hunt on your own.

Basic Blind Hunt: $975 per person.  

2 1/2-day semi-guided hunt, 3 nights lodging and all meals included.

Optional Add-Ons:

Thermal Hunts: +$250 per person per 2 1/2 days for thermal hunt using your own equipment.  

Safari Thermal Hunt:  $475 per group. Guided. Thermal/Monocular/ATV.  You furnish ammo (308Winchester 55 grain) 2-3 hours during optimum hunting time. Maximum 4. 

Non-hunter: $175 per day

Spot-n-stalk:  $450 for a group of 4.

Habitat:

We are located in Knox County, Texas, the most dense area of wild hog population in the United States.  The terrain ranges from dense mesquite pastures to rough cedar break canyons laced with fresh spring-fed creeks to acres and acres of cropland. Most of our property is perched on the rim of the scenic South Wichita River canyons where the abundant wild game has easy access to water, cover and food. The Hunt:

Hog hunting is open year-round. No hunting license required but please refer to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website for current updates. On the Ranch’s hog hunting areas, we set up strategically placed elevated 4 x 6 blinds, tripods, pop-up blinds, and corn spinners. Once you arrive at 2:00 pm you will confirm with your email the signed waiver with one of the staff, get settled into your accommodations, and go through “Hog Orientation 101” with one of the Guides and be shown the hunting area.  At this point, you are basically “on your own” to get back to that area and start your hunt or a guide staff will meet with you to make a plan for the next hunt.

 

 

Hog Habits:

One of the biggest misconceptions hunters have about hogs is that by their appearance and unclean habitat they are “dumb”. This is far from the truth. A hog’s intelligence level is higher than a dog. Their keen sense of smell is greater than a deer, and they have excellent hearing. The only advantage hunters have is that a hog’s eyesight is poor. A hog is a very nomadic type of animal; here today, then 10 miles away tomorrow, and not committed to a set daily habit. It makes for one of the most difficult animals to pattern hunt. Hogs move very fast and can go from 0 to 30-35 mph in matter of seconds. For hunters up to the challenge, the satisfaction and accomplishment of bagging a hog is greatly rewarding. Along with other game animals the females are the best eating, the boars are the best trophies and biggest challenge. Soon you'll have "boar fever".

Recommended Equipment:

• Clothing suitable for the weather, camo and ScentLok are recommended. Orange is not recommended or necessary.

• Comfortable hunting boots. Snake boots are always smart.

• Rifle with scope and at least a .243 with a 150 grain bullet.  A .223 is NOT recommended to be successful in killing hogs.

• Scope mounted Rechargeable Green light offers more clarity Available for rent $50 for entire length of stay from Ranger Creek.

• Flashlight

• Binoculars

• Vehicle capable of handling rough ranch roads. 4WD/ATV’s/UTV’s are an asset.

• Game cleaning, skinning, and butchering tools (knives)

• Coolers. Ice is available at the Main Lodge for $2.50 per bag

TEXAS DOVE HUNTING PRICES & INCLUSIONS

Executive Package: $995 per person includes 2 1/2 day dove hunt, meals, and 2 nights lodging.

Main Lodge available for groups of 20+. Fishing available at no extra cost. Hog hunting is also available for an additional exciting hunt for those that want to keep busy.

Economy Package: $795 per person includes 2 1/2 day dove hunt, and 2 nights lodging. No meals.

Unguided Duck Hunt – $450 per person

Self-guided includes 1 night of lodging in a satellite ranch house.

Come out for a fun filled adventure of waterfowl hunting.  We will show you the hunting area the afternoon prior to the morning hunt and then you venture out on your own to hunt.  This is an enjoyable, relaxing hunt for all ages.
